NWAS Gears up for Liverpool and Manchester Pride Festivals

NWAS staff will be taking part in the Liverpool and Manchester Pride festivals this year

The North West Ambulance Service’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Staff Network is gearing up for its entries at Liverpool and Manchester Pride events in 2010.

Liverpool Pride is taking place on the 7th August, whilst Manchester’s event is later on, on the 28th August.

An LGBT Network spokesperson said: “This is the first time Liverpool has held an event on this scale so it’s important to show our support. We will be marching through the streets of Liverpool joined by thousands of other LGBT people, their friends and families. The parade starts at midday, and is followed by a street party in the gay quarter of the city. This promises to be a fun, and exciting day.”

North West Ambulance Service will be there alongside the police, fire and prison services, as well as other NHS organisations. UNISON will also be at both events, raising awareness about the negative effects of public sector cuts and bringing the million voices campaign to the LGBT community.

Last year, around 100 staff and friends of the service marched on the Manchester Pride parade, making it one of the largest and most successful since NWAS first got involved in the event.

If you’d like to get involved or want more information, drop the NWAS LGBT Network an email at lgbt@nwas.nhs.uk. You don’t have to be LGBT – every year many straight staff members join their colleagues in support and to soak up the party atmosphere.
