Planned Care Document Causes Confusion

A recent memo put out by the management team in Manchester has created some confusion amongst Planned Care Staff.

The document outlines, amongst other things, the requirements set out in the A4C agreement required to claim things like Off Base Lunch payments. The management approached UNISON recently as there was concern that staff may misunderstand when they can or cannot claim for certain entitlements.

After some dialogue, it was agreed that it would be beneficial to re-issue the information to staff to avoid any potential problems. We would like to reassure our members that no changes have been made to the Meal Break agreement as has been rumoured.

  1. We don’t get to see our work till on the day so how can we plan to bring food I can’t decide what to eat next day anyway

  2. A minor point, but what if you don’t want sarnies? So it’s one thing to be told you’re having you’re mealbreak off base, another to be told what you’re going to be eating as well?

  3. Can you imagine the response from an officer if you were caught eating on an ambulance??

  4. The information came from both our Health and Safety and Infection Control Managers, as long as they are in a sealed container it is not a problem. Planning an off base lunch is not a problem when there is an aticipated journey etc but it is up to the indivudal what they have to eat. You never have to eat on the ambulance, you should return to a stn to dine away from your vehicle. It is your choice whether or not you take your food out with you.

  5. I found the statement that comments it is now fine to carry our own sandwiches on the vehicle “permitted” very confusing. I was under the impression that it was not good practice or even safe for that matter to be carrying food in a potentially clinical area?.

Also i do not like the idea that the controller can “Plan an off base lunch” for a crew and go on to say that if this is the case, then the crew will not be paid an off base allowance as the crew will be made aware in advance to bring there own sandwiches. I should not have to eat my dinner on the ambulance to make planning easier for the planner and i do not like the idea of carrying my sandwiches in the ambulance. Where am i supposed to store them?. There is not much space for our patients belongings.
